I’m done with being treated like I’m dying all the time.

The suggested visit frequency for my condition at this point is every six months. (By the internet, even… my doctor doesn’t even think I need to come in anymore). I haven’t noticed any change since I got my shot last March, and yet I’ve been into the office every 3 months since I’ve been diagnosed - all because my dad insists that something else is wrong.

Every time I go in for a check up, he refuses to let me go alone, comes into the room with me, and asks the doctor every question imaginable, even if it doesn’t pertain to my situation. He acts like I’m going blind and that I can’t take care of myself. I realize that he worries, but this is FUCKING ridiculous.

So tonight I told him that if I was even going to go to the appointment tomorrow, I was going to do it alone. I’m sick of being babied like I can’t take care of my own health.

He, as always, blew up in my face, and told me absolutely not. To which I replied that it was my choice and he legally cannot come with me.

I really wish LAPD, USC, and DPS would finally take responsibility for the obvious injustice that happened on Friday night.

I completely believe that the officials that were at the public forum tonight are sincere about their efforts to curb the racial profiling that occurs in and out of the streets of South LA, but they are not the ones that patrol and respond. Where were the officers who were called for backup in riot gear in response to a noise complaint? I understand that there is protocol in place for educating police officers against racial profiling, but it is obvious from Friday night’s events that this is not being perpetuated during actual police action.

Also, WHERE IN THE WORLD IS PRESIDENT NIKIAS? Of all people to need to have responded to this ridiculous event, why is he nowhere to be found? Why has he failed to let our parents know about this? Why is he hiding from a student body that needs his leadership as a president to help us create motion for change in our campus and community’s atmosphere?

USC, get your shit together. It’s time for us to be a true Trojan Family.

I’m proud to stand with the Black Student Association, Women’s Student Assembly, Undergraduate Student Government, and any other student groups that were at the sit-in today. We will not accept the security measures that claim to protect us when they in fact ignore racial profiling and sexual violence on campus. We are the Trojan Family, and skin color and gender do NOT define us - this is a student issue.

We will not be silent.
